The much-awaited 2008 Nissan Sentra models have already been launched in the market. The latest line-up has been designed on the new "C" platform. Basically, the latest line-up is a carryover of the last year's line-up that was given a totally new look by the manufacturer. For this year, there are very minor changes that can be noticed in the interior and exterior segments of the five latest Sentra models. However, these small changes give a much higher impact on the overall design.
Body Styles
Available in sedan form only, the 2008 Nissan Sentra has been launched in five trim levels, such as 2.0, 2.0 S, 2.0 SL, SE-R and SE-R Spec V. Built on Nissan’s new “C” platform, the sixth-generation Sentra has a 5.9-inch longer wheelbase as compared to the previous generation design. It is even 2.3 inches longer in overall length, 3.2 inches wider and sits 4.0 inches taller for easy entrance and enhanced headroom.
Exterior Body
The 2.0 base models are highlighted with 15-inch steel wheels with wheel cover and dual body-colored manual outside mirrors, while 2.0 S has 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers and dual body-colored power outside mirrors. The 2.0 SL is quite similar like the 2.0 S with the exception of aluminum-alloy wheels. The Nissan Sentra exterior body of the SE-R is accented with 17" aluminum-alloy wheels, all-season tires, a sport grille, distinct front and rear sport fascias, smoked headlight surround and smoked taillights, lower body side sill extensions, chrome exhaust-tip finisher, fog lights, dual body-colored power outside mirrors and a rear spoiler. The SE-R Spec-V is exactly like the SE-R with just one exception of summer performance tires.
Power Under The Hood
For the new Sentra Sedan models, the manufacturer has included a wide variety of engines with decent power. The base model 2.0, 2.0 SL and 2.0 SE has MR20DE — 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine that offers an exceptional balance of responsive acceleration, excellent low and mid-range torque and increased thermal efficiency. It gives good horsepower and a respectable gas mileage when paired with the continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a manual six-speed transmission. For those looking for more speed and power, the manufacturer has provided the medium-hot Sentra SE-R with a 177-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder and up-level Sentra SE-R Spec V with a more powerful 200-horse power version of that same engine. Both the engines give a smooth driving experience that can't be found in other economy sedans.
Smooth Driving
Excellent ride and handling is one of the strongest points in the 2008 Nissan Sentra models. As all the models use electric power steering that is speed sensitive, it gives the models a lighter feel when parking and heavier one when it is moving on the road. Responsive handling is promised by the front suspension with coil springs and stabilizer bar, torsion beam with integral stabilizer bar and rear shock absorbers, while the ride comfort has been enhanced through use of special “ripple control” shock absorbers, an insulated front cradle-type subframe with pendulum engine mount system, roller-type front strut bearings and large tuned rear beam isolators.
